..............................................................................Milonga

These notes summarise two milonga workshops given by Rodolfo Aguerrodi & Miho Omaki in Cambridge in November 2004.

Workshop B began with some rhythm exercises:

    Walking forward offset to left of Follower;

Crossing one foot in tight behind the other on alternate steps;

    Walking backward too:

crossing one foot tightly in front of the other on alternate steps;

Thne we did an exercise moving sideways:

0

Begin with left foot in front of right foot;

1

Begin by tapping the left foot to the left side before bouncing back off the left foot;

2

Left foot touches down in front and slightly to the right of the right foot;

3

Right foot touches down behind and slightly to the right of the left foot;

4

Left foot touches down in front and slightly to the right of the right foot;

5

Right foot touches down behind and slightly to the right of the left foot;

6

Left foot touches down in front and slightly to the right of the right foot;

7

Right foot touches down behind and slightly to the right of the left foot;

8

Tap the left foot to the right side before bouncing back off the left foot;
    Continue the cycle back to the left and to the right and ...

Then we repeated the exercise in couples:

    Beginning in offset parallel and Leader steps forward on his left leg so Follower steps back on her right leg;

Leader bounces left foot to his left and Follower bounces her rigth foot to her right ...

We then played with a milonga giro:

    Begin with leader offset parallel on Follower's right.

Quick:

Leader steps forward onto his right leg and Follower steps back onto her left leg;

Quick:

Leader changes weight onto his left leg as he turns his chest so Follower steps to her side onto her right leg;

Quick:

Leader turns 90 and changes weight onto his right leg as he turns his chest so Follower steps forward onto her left leg;

Slow:

Leader turns 90 and changes weight onto his left leg as he turns his chest so Follower steps to her side onto her right leg;

Quick:

Leader steps forward onto his right leg and Follower steps back onto her left leg;

Quick:

Leader changes weight onto his left leg as he turns his chest so Follower steps to her side onto her right leg;

Quick:

Leader turns 90 and changes weight onto his right leg as he turns his chest so Follower steps forward onto her left leg;

Slow:

Leader turns 90 and changes weight onto his left leg as he turns his chest so Follower steps to her side onto her right leg;

Normally in offset parallel we use four tracks:

    Leader in tracks 1 and 2; Follwer in tracks 3 and 4;

Then we move into cross system and need only three tracks:

    Leader uses tracks 1 and 2; Follower in tracks 2 and 3;

At a certain moment when Leader's right leg is about to go forward and Follower's left leg is about to go back in track 2 ...

Leader moves forward and slightly diagonally on his right leg into track 3 ahead of his Follower's calf; Follower's right leg goes back in track 2 as usual;

Leader moves forward on his left leg in track 1 but his right leg is now blocking the normal backward movement of Follower's left leg so she has to move it slightly outwards to avoid the obstacle - a sacada.

and finally we added some changes of side:

    Leader uses tracks 1 and 2; Follower in tracks 2 and 3;

At a certain moment when Leader's right leg is about to go forward and Follower's left leg is about to go back in track 2 ...

Leader moves forward and slightly diagonally on his right leg into track 3 ahead of his Follower's calf; Follower's right leg goes back in track 2 as usual;

Leader moves forward on his left leg in track 1 but his right leg is now blocking the normal backward movement of Follower's left leg so she has to move it slightly outwards to avoid the obstacle - a sacada.

Leader changes weight as he moves his chest around anti-clockwise bringing his Follower into a side step onto her right leg across in front of him;

Leader takes a short step backward onto his right leg in the new track 3, drawing his follower forward onto her left leg in the new track 2 (on Leader's left side).

They continue ...
