These notes
summarise two salon tango workshops given
by Rodolfo Aguerrodi & Miho Omaki in
Cambridge in 2004.

Workshop
A began with some history of how salon
style evolved in the packed dance halls
of Buenos Aires with thousands of people
trying to dance to the famous bands of
the day:
|
|
|
| |
|
|
|
We walked
in couples salon style with chest-to-chest
contact with leader and follower slightly
offset from centre to give space for
manoeuvring:
|
|
|
| |
|
Leader
walks forward with energy coming gently
from the solar plexus trying to ensure
that the inside edges of their feet brush
against one another at each step; Leaer moves follower
from side to side across in front of him
using only his chest;
|
Then we tried a simple
arrastre:
|
|
|
| |
|
Couple walk in parallel
offset ensuring feet brush one another in
each step; At a
certain moment with leader's left foot
forward in contact with follower's left
foot, leader rotates his chest towards
his follower so he can move forward
alongside her without her taking a
backward step;
Leader
completes teh step by pushing follower's
left foot forward with his left foot so
she crosses her left foot in front of her
right;
Leader
rotates his follower sightly to release
her cross and continues walking in offset
parallel;
until
a certain moment when they are left to
left again ...
|
We then
tried a more difficult arrastre:
|
|
|
| |
|
Leader and follower take
an open step to his left and her right; Leader
leads his follower to collect but
interposes his right foot against her
right foot so she sandwiches his foot
between hers;
Leader
pivots slightly to his left and leads a
giro to his left side to encourage his
follower to lift her left foot to step
over his but he accompanies her left foot
with his own right foot as they step over
her right foot;
Leader
pivots slightly to his right and leads a
giro to his right side to encourage his
follower to lift her left foot to step
back over his but he accompanies her left
foot with his own right foot as they step
back over her right foot;
continue
a few times ...
