Cambridge

These notes summarise a follower's technique workshop arranged by Mike and Stephanie at the Cambridge TangoBar and taught by Rodolfo Aguerrodi and Miho Omaki in November 2003.

There were two 3-hour sessions.

Session 1 began with a group of floor exercises ...

First, we lay back and stretched each side of our bodies in turn - left arm stretched and left foot/toes pointing away then right arm/leg

Second, we slowly lifted our legs together so they pointed upwards, holding this position for a few moments, then slowly separating the legs as wide as possible and holding for a few moments, then closing slowly and holding, then lowering slowly.

Third, we lay back with raised knees, hands pulling the knees to lift the hips and spine. Then gently lower each vertebra, one at a time, into contact with the floor.

Fourth, we slowly lifted one leg to point upwards, lowering it gently to the side to touch the floor then lowering it alongside the other; repeating with the other leg.

Then we worked as "matched stature" couples on the floor:

One partner lies prone with relaxed legs while the other, standing between her partner's legs takes hold of both ankles and gently stretches her partner's legs up and back several times before swapping roles.

From a similar position, lift and genrtly shake each leg in turn up and down and side to side; swap roles.

One parter lies supine while the opther takes hold of her legs at the ankles and gently lifts each leg in turn to flex the pelvis.

Then we worked alone:

Sitting upright on our haunches, we gently pushed our torsoes forward, centre, back, nad returing tp the centre with a slightly upward push from teh chest.

Then we worked upright, standing so the weight is forward of the ball of one foot and the big and second toes form a triangular support with the ball of the foot.:

Staying upright, think of moving your had and torso upward from the centre of your body as you slowly lift your heels, then keep thinking upright as you lower your heels without lowering your head.
