Madrid

These notes summarise three 2-hour milonga lessons by Gustavo Russo and Alejandra Mantinan Madrid at the Madrid Tango Festival in 2000.

Gustavo and Alejandra taught us the milonga "style":

... steps are usually short, sometimes very short;

... couple usually offset

... back foot fully down; and

... side-side rocking of torso with music.

We then added some backward ochos:

  Leader steps back on his right leg

Leader steps to left side on his left leg

Leader brings his right leg to touch his left foot, pivoting slightly to his left turning his follower and changing her weight

repeat:

    Leader steps forward on his right leg so his follower steps back on her right leg

Leader inches his left leg forward changing his follower's weight and turning her slightly

Leader steps back to left so his follower steps back on her left leg

Leader inches his left leg forward changing his follower's weight and turning her slightly

and exit:

    Leader changes weight and steps forward on his left leg as his follower steps back on her left leg

Leader closes his left foot against his right foot and makes a short step back on his left foot

We then added some forward ochos:
